Florida Gov. Scott could run for U.S. Senate

Rick Scott and Bill Nelson

Republican Gov. Rick Scott of Florida is term-limited. It is widely believed he is angling to run against Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in 2018. Trump has certainly been encouraging Scott to run.

A Florida Chamber of Commerce poll in March had Nelson with a 6 point lead in a hypothetical matchup, 48 to 42 percent.

According to the Florida Politics website, other polls show similar results.

A UNF Public Opinion Research Laboratory survey released earlier in March found Nelson would take 44 percent to Scott’s 38 percent. A Mason-Dixon survey showed Nelson with a 5-point edge over Scott, 46 percent to 41 percent.

Yet another poll done late in March, which seems to be an outlier, found Nelson leading Scott by 15 points, 53 percent to 37 percent. This one was done by Gravis Marketing for The Orlando Political Observer.

I haven’t heard much good about Gravis over the years so I’m going to go ahead and assume this one will be close, should Scott run.

If he doesn’t, he’s doing a good job of keeping other potential GOP candidates from doing the necessary groundwork.

Thanks for that.
