“You Were on My Mind” – Ian and Sylvia (1964)

Most people of a certain age know the We Five version of “You Were on My Mind.” Fewer (unless you are a Canadian or have lived in the country for 37 years) know the original by Ian and Sylvia, written by Sylvia Fricker of the Canadian duo in 1962, and released on their 1964 album, Northern Journey.

Despite what the graphic below indicates, according to Discography, singles were also issued on both the Vanguard and Amadeo labels in 1964, not 1963.

I’m partial to both the We Five and Ian and Sylvia versions, and couldn’t choose if I had to, but why would I have to?
