Does civility matter in politics?

I used to think it did, but perhaps that has changed with everything else we thought we knew. We used to think that the nastiness played itself out in the House or at the party level, and that the president would or should be above all of that, or at least be capable of rising above it.  That’s my recollection anyway.

If politics is only about power than tone and attitude don’t matter. But if there are moments when partisanship ought to be put aside for the greater good, it is hard to imagine President Trump being able to draw on any good will with Tweets like this.
