Listen Here: “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus” – Mabel Scott (1948); Colin James & the Little Big Band (2007)

“Boogie Woogie Santa Claus” was written by Leon René. It was recorded by Mabel Scott for Supreme Records in the late ’40s and got as far as the top 15 on the Billboard’s Race Records chart.

Patti Page covered it in 1950 as a B-side, though no one noticed. The A-side, “Tennessee Waltz”, did okay (a number one hit in the US and of course one of her best known efforts).

More recently The Brian Setzer Orchestra covered it for their 2002 album Boogie Woogie Christmas and Colin James for his 2007’s Colin James & The Little Big Band: Christmas.

Scott’s and James’s versions appear below, though the Setzer  version is great too.

Pretty obscure, but a fun song.
