Night Music: Frank Culley – “After Hour Session” (1950)

Frank “Floorshow” Culley (1917-1991) was Rhythm & Blues tenor saxophonist and bandleader who recorded successfully from the 1940s on. He was the first leader of the Atlantic Records house band.

As per AllMusic,  “Culley can be credited with helping to create the entire sound of the R&B saxophone, leading to a dependable spot for the horn in many a combo.”

“After Hour Session”, reached #10 on the Billboard R&B chart.
