I want to be Rick Perlstein when I grow up, but as I have already grown up, it’s probably too late. The author of Before the Storm about Goldwater and Nixonland about you know who has written another book, this one about Ronny Rayguns.
There are few writers working today better able to explain the origins and ongoing madness that is political conservatism in America. In his latest, The Invisible Bridge, Perlstein describes the main theme of the book as how liberals underestimated Reagan, and how Reagan helped define and promote the current conservative hysteria called American exceptionalism.
Salon has an interview with the author you may find useful.
l haven’t read the book yet, but will very soon. It’s on the list. Mr. Perlstein is one of my personal favs.
